The winning entry, from Skip Bowman of Portland, Oregon:
I first encountered the Long Beach Peninsula back in early springtime of the 1980s, on a ride around US 101 on my new motorcycle. I was just passing through town; intending only to stop for gas. I didn't plan on staying 3 days, but that's exactly what happened. From the moment I stepped off my bike and filled my lungs with deep gulps of the sea breeze, the seductive, understated charm of the area was overwhelming.
There is a certain emotional independence that comes from living on an island, and Long Beach Peninsula is isolated from the rest of civilization just far enough to foster that iconoclastic outlook. Sure, the scenery is lovely, the food delicious (some of the best-tasting crab I ever had was on that trip!), and the philosophical contemplation involved with the looooong walks along the boardwalk and on that [28]-mile stretch of sand have their own appeal, but it was the locals that sold me on the area. These are my people now and from the first it was as if I'd come home and always belonged. They loved their hometowns and so do I. Everyone was so different, with their own stories to tell, and I wanted to hear them all.
After that first visit, I began a tradition of spending each New Year's Day in Long Beach--not partying on New Year's Eve but the arriving the day of January 1st. Often it would be the locals I'd wind up hanging out with for a beer or three; solving the problems of the world while dining daintily on crab cakes and sauteed razor clams. Everyone took their time; why hurry to do anything? The ocean isn't going anywhere.
Since that time I've vacationed here, spent jazzy weekends here, even played music during various summer concert series. Any excuse is a good enoough excuse to return to the Long Beach Peninsula. In fact, now that you got me thinking about it, I need to check my calender to see what's available next weekend...

We (myself and my family) our born and raised here in Washington. We have been going to Long Beach Peninsula area since we can remember. I even lived there for 3 years and went to Jr. High and a few months of High school there. We love the ocean and we never tire of the whole thing. We use to come down along time ago all the time when my Father-in-Law was alive and well in Ocean Park. After he passed it seems we only get there once or twice a year now and that saddens us. We would live there if we could. I would have to commute to Woodland,WA for work and that would be a little much, especially in the winter. But, we are trying to come down for the 4th but we cannot find a place to stay. So, we will come down for the day and drive back that night, I guess. Anyway, we deserve a reason to take off of work and spend a couple of days to enjoy the Beach. Thanks

I love the way the flying kites send my soul soaring with them. The lighted night fly leaves a sparkle in my children's eyes. I would love to see it all again with them, feel the sand beneath our feet and taste an elephant ear before school begins and our busy schedules send us on our own separate journeys once again.

A fun beach for me would be that of in Santa Cruz. Here you can swim on a warm day and hit the Beach Boardwalk after your day of swimming and hit the rides and games on the Boardwalk.

I am a soldier serving in Afghanistan with Operation Enduring Freedom. I have been here for 9 months so far with another 6 months to go. When you are away from home for so long and experience what we experience this leads to escapism. What I do is think about the best times I ever had and the most relaxing. Before I deployed I asked my girlfriend to marry me while we were visting Long Beach....she said yes and we were married Sept 6 of 06, I left less than 20 days later. I promised her a honeymoon with the works and she said to me "lets just go to the beach and relax" thats my wife loving and supportive of me through all of what we have been through. I love Long Beach and we love to visit there. I wish I could make you laugh or touch you in a way to make you cry. However I can offer gratitude to be considered for this. When i get home on leave in September for two weeks or home from deployment in Febuary I will come out there regardless, I will take my wife to the place that I proposed and I will thank her for her love and support that has got me through this thus far and her love in return is enough for me. Thank you

My husband and I have spent many vacation days at Long Beach, both with our young children and since we retired. We just love walking on the beach and the wonderful people we meet. I do not think anywhere is more attuned to making people feel welcome.

His name is Mike...divorced twice doteting dad to 3 kids Her name is Helen...divorced once she is a never stopping mom to her own three kids..They share a common link....her best friend of 22 years is his sister. They figure out they are soul mates on a RARE weekend without kids and are finally ready to dip their feet into the dating pool again and to do so with 6 very different kids is a challenge every day. There isn't a moment that is spent without interuption but it is worth it to us both because we have a love that has only been felt by few. He told me the other day that "Love to me...is YOU" We are so worth what we have and it took sometime for him to see that. He went from "I'll never get married again" to saying out loud that "YOU are the ONE" We don't need a special spot that we go to every once and awhile to rekindle our romance....it is there everyday within us "our spot" is next to each other. We spend our time and energy and not to mention money on the 6 most important precious beings...our children, that we do neglect to take time for ourselves and I would love to sweep us away for we both have a great love of the ocean and maybe do something out of the box like propose to him as we build a fire on the beach together settling in to watch the sunset. We've talked about what our ideal wedding would be like and it always come back to the ocean...but for now we need some "us" time...who knows plan it right and we could bring the whole team with us!!!!!!!!!!!Did I mention there are 6 kids...4,9,10yr old twins,14,15 are the ages!!! lovin' every minute of it!

I was hooked on the Long Beach peninsula, but when I got my kids and grandkids hooked, I was in heaven! Long Beach Coffee Roasters "adopted" me when my grandson fell asleep in the stroller and I walked a few blocks and discovered what a treasure it is to rest in the haven it provides. To watch my granddaughter pummel in alligators at the fun center was absolutely priceless. And then, there's the beach, the boardwalk, friendly, friendly people. I could go on and on, instead I'll return again and again!

We love the Peninsula! I travel monthly to the beach on business. I teach Mandatory Alcohol Server Training Classes to all restaurants, bars and taverns that serve alcohol for the Washington State Liquor Control Board.

hi, my family is not extraordinary, we are simple. I teach school and summer school every year to put food on the table and provide for my family. My wife stretches the dollar like no one else, and my daughter has the world of imagination with the cardboard tube from a paper towel roll. We are not poor. I have never seen long beach, but have lived vicariously through the internet. My entering the contest is for my daughter. She was born in China and longs to see the beach. She is only 4 so her longing is short. But desert dwellers like us dream of pb&j sandwiches, lemonade and sand in your bathing suit. It's a memory I want to give her before she becomes a teen.

I visted Westport, Grayland, Ilwalco, and Long beach last year. My family and I had a wonderful time. It's very relaxing and safe enviroment. Everyone is friendly and always willing to lend a hand with directions or maybe recommending a good palce to eat. My daughter is looking forward to riding horses on the beach or flying her kite with Daddy. Of course we bring one of our family pets along for the fun as well. Feeling the cool sand on our toes, hunting for sand dollars, and watching the ocean. What a blast... Can't wait to visit again!

My fondest childhood beach memory was that trip to with my parents to Pensacola Beach. Having been born and raised in the MidWest I had never been to a beach before. I heard about them and saw them in magazines, but was totally unprepared and enthralled by the ocean and sand. My Dad showed me how to color that brillant white sand to make my own room bottle decorations. And did I make them. He even dug piles of that sand for me to bring home in the car to play with, color, create with and admire for months to come. It was a joyful memory I can still see and feel almost 60 years later.

When i was little my parents always took us to the beach for vacation. my dad loves to salmon fish and i loved all the attractions. i havent been back to the ocean for about 12 years and miss it so much. I want to go to the beach because it makes me feel younger, relaxed and very happy. there is nothing like a sunset at the beach and all the seafood you want!

As a child I spent EVERY summer in Long Beach/Ocean park. My grandparents owned quite a bit of land in Ocean Park. The best time of my life was playing in the tide pools with new beach equiptment we we get to pick out at Jack's Country store. I remember watching my 4'9'' grandmother drive on the beach and get stuck in the sand. Mind you my grandmother never knew how to drive. I think about going to the Shake Shack and getting ice cream. The most exciting was me and my younger sister going to Marsh's on the way out of town and getting a suprise box. WE would always wait to open them until we stopped at the Bee Hive in Montesano. I will never forget the legacy and awesome memories my grandparents gave all five of us. We still travel there every year for a few days in the summer. Our family a lot larger. Grandparents now passed away. But the smell and feel of my childhood will always be held in Long Beach. I cannot wait to share with my kids one day. Tell the all the funny things that happened on grandpa Martin's farm. Ghost stories from Oysterville. Suprise boxes from Marsh's. Playing in tide pools all day. Oh and my mother always winning on scratch tickets she bought at Okie's. Thank you for your time.

We love Long Beach. We were married at Our Place on the Beach in February 2004. We come as often as we can to walk on the beach and browse the shops and just chill out. It is a wonderful area with so many things to see and do.

I was born in Ilwaco! My father, Wm.(Bill)Fell, was involved with the electric company. I remember wandering on the beach, watching fishing and crabing boats come in. The smells of the ocean and the cargo in the boats are smells I loved. There was a family with 2 sets of twins whom we played with. The house I lived on was on a hill overlooking the ocean. My dream is to visit, sit on the docks and watch the boats and seagulls, take pictures and later paint the scenes and most of all to enjoy the smells!

We adore Longbeach not only because it's close enough to our home in Longview that we can go their at a moments notice but because the entire peninnsula is FULL of wholesome family activities that we can enjoy with our 6-year old son both indoors and out! I always feel at peace the minute I head west from Longview along the highway knowing when I arrive at Longbeach the air will be fresh, the streets will either be silent except for the wind in the winter or full of happy families in the summer. I feel more in love there, calm there, happy to get dirty on the beach there! It doesn't seem to matter how many times we go into the same shops and eateries the food always tastes new and good and there is always something new and creative to look at! Thank you Funbeach!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
This is the best beach around because it has it all: beauty, shopping, great restaurants. You name it, the beach has it!

I have been coming to Long Beach since I was a Kid. We came for summer vacations with my family and always brought our friends, then after I grew up I brought my new wife who had never been. I remember the first time that she came with me it was a very wet year and there were boats taking floating in parking lots with people in them, she was not very keen on staying, however I convinced her to stay and we had a good time. The next time we came was better we rented a house and explored to our hearts content. we skipped a couple of years as we were having kids and once they were toddlers we returned. It was nice being able to drive out on the beach and park and set up the play pen and enjoy the day. My favorite memory is when our daughter was about 9 months old we were getting around at home to leave for a much needed vacation. We packed our bags grabbed the diaper bag and off we went. We reached Longview and I was stricken with the realization that my wife was going to throw me out of the car and run me down not once but maybe twice. I told her in my calm husbandly way that our luggage was sitting on the porch at home, 100 miles in the opposite direction, oh no we'd have to go back and get it and probably not get in until 3:00 am. my wife in her yer messing with me and stop it tone of voice said "you did not", I replied, "yes I did" this went back and forth until she told me to drop it, I replied, "do you want to go get your clothes or not?" Now mad she said "no, stop it". we continued and arrived at the home we had rented, I grabbed the diaper bag and went in. My dear wife wanted me to get our clothes, I told her to and went and locked myself in the bathroom. I heard her Yell Trrroooy. I soon emerged from my hiding place to remind her that she was the one who did not believe me. We bought new clothes the next day and had a great time and a great memory. We continued to visit yearly and then decided to visit for the fourth of July, Wow our jaws dropped so far we were scoopin up sand, what a great time, we have made that a family tradition and bring friends and family along, our beach setup gets more elaborate each year now we come with a trailer full of firework and a trailer for our beach setup, we love watching our friends faces when the realize that long beach has been transformed into Beruit.. what a good time.we always stay someplace diffrent either a condo, townhome, house, motel, even camping-thats the best. However once I rented a place that was a bargain and again upon entering I heard the familiar Trrroooy, oh no they forgot to clean up after the last guests, or wait a minute did they ever clean up, well we didnt stay and after a few calls and some explaining we had a condo supplied to us for less than the original place what a blessing as we had my wifes handicapped father. he sat on the balcony and watched fireworks and people. This was the very las time he travelled anywhere before he passed on, Isnt God great. Thanks Long Beach for a lifetime of memories.

We should win this contest, because we NEED to win, because of family nessesities we have not been able to get back for almost two years. Longbeach is our favorite family place, We have brought family from missouri twice to stay at rentals (Sea Nest)and(Sea Hope Cottage). We have stayed and Dined at the Edgewater. Our family memories are full of fun. Between the horseback riding, Go-Carts, shopping, clamming, beachcombing and stargazing we also found time to conceive our son Jacob (No easy feat with so much to do with three children). Well now with children leaving the nest and our son now three, we believe it is time to come back and start new memories. I think we'll start with the amusement park for our little guy and a walk on the beach to see the whale. Thanks for helping families remember to just HAVE FUN.

We all go through peaks and valleys in life. Some Peaks are High some valleys are really low. I have just traveled through a difficult valley in life. I knew I would make it through the valley, I knew that I would someday be able to climb up another peak. It was up to me to keep my head up and to keep my heart going to not just quit and say it was just to hard. Now I have made it through the valley and I am celebrating Life again. Enjoying every moment I find myself in. Reaching out to experience all that I can out of Life. So, here I am writting to you having never been to long beach and longing for the experience of it. I want to experience the sand, the ocean and the people. Feel the breeze and live each moment there with a heart full of Joy and Peace.

I would like to win this vacation because I have been to the Oregon coast a couple of times and have absolutely loved coming. The coast is truly a magical place. I have not however experienced Long Beach. We have been as far as Monterey, and driven the coast all the way to Seaside. This year in July we are coming again in our brand new travel trailer and we will be staying at Anderson's RV park in Long Beach. I want to experience this tranquil place and decide whether to bring our grandchildren there when we take them for a holiday in August. Thank you

We (my family) have been going Every 4th of july since before i was born for the 4th of july, and in november and we just LOVE how it is full of adventures waiting around the corner and how tasty the food at the Lightship resturant is so fresh and how fun the Rock-o-plane is when you are flying above the city, I cound go on for hours, but to rap it up, it is just GREAT!!!

I have never been to Long Beach but have imagined it many times. My mom, who passed away three years ago, loved Long Beach. She loved all beaches, but Long Beach especially. It was always a magical place of fine dining and relaxation for her. She always came back from her visits to Long Beach relaxed and re-energized. I know that this vacation spot played a role in her ability to do everything, for everybody, every day of her life. Thank you!

Wonderful place to be!!!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I think I should win the contest because I have two young children who find the Long Beach Peninsula magical! We love to dig in the sand, visit the candy shops, and Marsh's Museum. Most summers we plan a family vacation, but due to unfortunate circumstances this year including a family member needing expensive medical treatment and a car wreck we can't afford to go anywhere. I can tell you we would all be very appreciative of having a memorable summer vacation this year!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
We awoke one saturday morning and said what should we do today. We decided to come to the Long Beach Peninsula. We loved it so much we returned every 3 months for R&R from the big city grind and traffic jams. We retired 5 years ago here on the Long Beach Peninsula and it is like "BEING ON VACATION EVERY DAY!"
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
We enjoy driving to the beach as often as we can. We have always seen the bed and breakfasts and each time vowed "next time we'll stay" The money and the time never seemed to happen at the same time. So, we started saving all of our change for the trip. We almost had enough when my son in Florida needed a helping hand. He moved to Florida a year ago to go to school to become an airline pilot. It has taken him a year to get everything in place for school. He has been acpted at Embry Riddle Aeornautical College to start in Sept. He has his first child due on July 12th. The choice wasn't that hard. So now we're starting over. What a wonderful time it would be to actually win the trip. Then I could send our new special savings to him again for something for the baby or family. Thanks so much for your consideration.

I adopted a little boy who will be turning 6 this summer and we are trying to plan a trip to Long Beach so that he can experience the ocean and the beach for the first time. Money is always tight for a single parent and winning this contest would make it possible to really enjoy our stay at the beach and be able to experience everything in the area. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Ive been coming to Long Beach since I was a little girl. My Grandparents lived in Ocean Park. I came here for my honeymoon in 1974. Divorced in 1990 and as my children grew up I brought them every summer. There is just something about coming to the beach! In 1991 my daughter then 3 was diagnosed with a Astro Cytoma (Brian Tumor) her seizures started in 1998 at 10 yrs old, after my middle son (Brian) at 15 was killed in an on the job accident. In May of 2005 my daughter had two Brain surgeries but her seizures continued. In July of 2006 after her highschool graduation she had two more Brain surgeries of which they did a partial Lobectomy. So we were unable to trael far fom home due to her recovery. I would so love to win this contest and surprise her with a visit to the beach of which we both love. We have so many treasured memories..and would love to honor my son's memory in returning to the beach.

My girls and I love LongBeach, we come every year and stay for a whole week! it is our home away from home for one week in the summer to play, relax and bond with one another. Our lives are very hectic with work, school, chores etc.. and this is one way for us to re-energize and re-new our relationships as mother/daughter sister/sister.

I have tons of childhood memories from clamming to shopping. Our family always traveled to Long Beach twice a summer for family camping weeks, as a child I dreamt of a romantic beach wedding here, walking hand in hand in the beautiful ocean sunset. I am newly married (not a beach wedding)and would love to suprise my husband with a trip to this wonderful, magical romantic beach of dreams.

I have been with the same man for the past seven years. On May 19, 2007 he proposed to me. We've been having such a difficult time trying to decide where we would like to be married and since I have never been to the ocean, I thought this could be the perfect place (by looking at the website, it looks absolutely breathtaking).

After visiting family many times in Ocean Park we invited some friends to visit us. One couple came up for the International Kite Festival. We warned them to bring warm clothes, but they were used to the beach at Santa Cruz during this time so they brought their shorts & swimsuits. Needless to say they were shocked as we sat bundled up on the beach watching all the various kits flying. They were impressed, but were glad to get back in the warm car. Our next friends visited July 3rd & 4th on their home. We had breakfast in Ocean Park and ate outside so that we would have ringside seat for the annual 4th of July parade. It is definitely one of a kind not to be missed especially the precision shopping carts at the end! We went back to our cottage for a little rest (we needed to replenished the energy tanks). That night we went to watch the fireworks on the beach. They were sure after 30 minutes that they were almost over and started back to the car. Only to watched them for nearly an hour more! They tell everyone they know who love fireworks that this is the best place in the world to watch from Long Beach to Ocean Park just kept going. It was the first time they ever said there were enough!

It has been over twenty years since my husband and I have stayed at Long Beach. We are both 45 years of age now. It excites me still thinking of the fun time we had and all the things we did. The memory of the roar of the ocean and the wind blowing my hair to and fro. The soft clomp of our feet as we strolled the boardwalk and the welcoming grip of the sand when we left it. The fascination and wonder of Marsh's Free Museam. Walking thru the tall grass of Leadbetter State Park hoping to see a bear. And pleasant early evening strolls in Seaview and Oysterville hand in hand with my husband.Oh, nostalgia, what a sweet pain!I can't just say I should win this but to me LONG BEACH IS THE BEST STRETCH OF OCEAN IN WASHINGTON STATE!!!!!! So please consider me, my husband and I WOULD LOVE TO BE YOUR GUESTS. Hope to see you soon.

My fiance and I have 3 young boys, ages 7, 5 and 9 months. We have never taken a vacation together and lately I have been thinking more and more about how fun that would be for our whole family. The boys would just have a blast and would so enjoy the beach and the shops. To be honest... my fiance and I would completely love it too!! I remember once as a small girl visiting Long Beach and while I was there we went into a little ice cream shop and I got a big cone of bubble gum ice cream that had more bubble gum in it than any other bubble gum ice cream I had ever had! I was so thrilled and I chewed that gum until it was hard and completely tasteless and my mom finally made me spit it out. It was wonderful!! I look forward to my kids getting to have some experiences of their and to create their own fond memories.

It is time I entered a contest to win delightful feelings! The beaches in Washington State are a beautiful adventure of ocean vistas and culinary delights. Ah, the sights, sounds, and smells of Long Beach.

Extended family would say very little about Ilwaco and Long Beach after they would go there on vacation every year. When we would ask what is it like, they would simply say something like, "It 's OK." Then we discovered they wanted to keep it a secret so it would not get too crowded there. We went camping at Camp Disappointment last year and Wow! We HAVE to spent more time all around there - and more and more! The friendliness, the atmosphere, the vistas, the food, the history, the photo ops, the relaxation, the flora , fauna, oh my!

As I surf the sea of destination resorts for my wife and I. Visions of strolling hand in hand along your pristine beaches captures my imagination. Memories are already captured and embossed in our photo album of site seeing and shopping the local establishments. Roses are Red, and Violets may be Blue, on our 10th Wedding Anniversary June 14th., we'd like to visit you.

I think I should win this contest because I am 32 years old & I had had never seen the ocean until June 1st 2007 when my husband & I took our kids to Mrytle Beach. I have also never been on an airplane. What I really want is for my husband & I to have a vacation with just the two of us. We got married at 19, & never even had a honeymoon.

My family and I have been vacationing at Long Beach for the last 5 years and we will be there again this year. We TRULY love coming to this part of the ocean. Are memories are all wonderful, our 3 children love all the stores and the Museum and can't wait to visit and spend there hard earn money. The greatest pleasure that we have been blessed with are the memories. Complete family time and the wonderful fires on the beach each night, smores, stories and sharing secrects with eachother are incredible. It is our piece of heaven on earth and we love the business owners and the town people who are always willing to share the best place to eat or to try this wonderful dessert at the bakery. I can't say how wonderful your beach has been for our family. Thank you for welcoming us and helping us to create unforgettable times!

Born in Kansas, I am fascinated with the ocean--ain't got one back home! Long Beach is a favorite get away place for me and my husband, Fred.. We consider the sound and smell of the sea very therapeutic, and have used it that way. I had a serious illness, and we had multiple Healing Weekends--Call someone (like Sue Hermans) and grab a little house for 2-4 nights. Eat the BEST food--42nd Street Cafe, The Ark, The Depot, and Laurie's are our faves. We've had wonderful family reunions in Long Beach--lots of things for kids to do, great kitchens and porches for yakking, and drive to the beach access for the elderly among us (love you, Jean). Now I've found The Breakers, and it gives my client in her wheelchair perfect access to the beach trail--which is delicious and delightful. Long Beach is perfect--small enough to be quiet and cozy, sophisticated enough for good food and entertainment. Thanks for all the good times!

My inlaws brought us to Long Beach, WA 2 years ago and we had the most amazing time! So fun for the kids, our dogs and a break from the every day routine here at home. Long Beach was more than a vacation for us. We made memories that will last a lifetime! The shops, the restaurants and the people were perfect! But I know my family will agree with me that the best part of the trip was the time spent on the beach. If we were to ever question why on earth we live in Washington all we need to do is go to Long Beach and it's all confirmed. For the last year and a half my husband has been working 50+ hours a week in addition to the renovations and landscaping needed at home to accomodate our children and dog's safety. Our daughter's miss spending some leisure time with daddy and he deserves a weekend away but we just couldn't justify it with all the requirements needed here at home.

About three years ago, my husband and I stayed a few days at Ilwaco. We enjoyed our stay in the area and kept planning to return with our daughter. On April 3, 2007, he passed away after a 15 month battle with cancer. He wanted to return to the Washington Coast, was unable to make it back. His birthday was on July 19th and our daughter's birthday is July 22nd. It will be a very difficut birthday for her as they always celebrated together. I want to do something special for her and start a new tradition, a place we can go each year and celebrate. This would be a new place for her as she has never been to the Long Beach area. We will carry him in our hearts with us.

Long Beach is my favorite town on the coast.

Long Beach is where my dream finally came true! I have always dreamed of ridding a horse on the beach. But after recieving a head injury from a horse wreck. I didn't think it would ever come true. Well last fall my husband and I were able to bring 2 of our miniature horses there and stayed at the Red Barn. We drove our horses on the beach, to me it was as good as ridding, which is no longer possible for me. I had tears in my eyes as we flew down the gorgous beach with our horses. Every one was so pleasent while we were there we do plan on coming back again someday. It will be sooner than later I hope.

Long Beach has been my favorite place escape to for nearly 15 years. As a single parent, it is especially important to me that the people of the town treat us like family! Remembering us from year's past. It is my favorite place on earth. I hope I can retire there someday.

Long Beach is the most family friendly beach and the kids enjoy comming to Long Beach.

I love Long Beach because it means peace in my mind. Daily we carry the heavy weight of life in our backs. The pain and spasams of life making our shoulders burdened and our head ache. We have sick loved ones that need our constant smile and cheer to help them to not give up in the fight for life. We work every day, working, working. Why do we live this life? For vacation. Because Long Beach is just a couple hours away. We come to the to see the force of life. The Sea. All our worries and pain disappear as we watch the waves crash on the shore and beat our troubles till they no longer feel so heavy and our load feels light. We return home ready to smile at all those in need of what we have to give.

WHEN WE GO TO LONG BEACH WASHINGTON IT IS THE BEST PLACE TO BE. EVERY BUSINESS YOU GO INTO ARE FRIENDLY. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO WHETHER IT IS SHOPPING, EATING, OR THE EVENTS YOU PUT ON. THE RELAXATION WE GET GOING THERE KEEPS US GOING FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. IT IS MY KIDS' FAVORITE VACATION SPOT.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
My husband grew up in Washington State and spent many nights, weekends and vacations visiting Long Beach. I on the other hand grew up on the East Coast, visiting Long Beach, NY, but never had the opportunity to visit the Pacific West Coast until we were engaged, over a year ago. For the three years we've been together, I've heard stories about the wonderful times he and his family and friends have shared while at Long Beach! The memories he shared with me alone pushed us to look for work in the area and in October 2006 we made the cross country trek to Washington, not only to enjoy the beautiful scenery, but to call it home. We now live and work in the Vancouver area. With both of us working full time and cost of living as it is, it is difficult to get away, let alone be able to afford such a luxury.. I can say now that I have visited Long Beach, WA, but each time are trips have always been cut short due to the drive time home. I would love the opportunity to explore the city even further with my husband and winning this contest would afford such an opportunity. Thank you for your interest in my story and I look forward to many, many years of visiting the Long Beach Peninsula.

Here goes another contest my mother in law will probably win before i do : )

We have made Long Beach our summer vacation spot for 28 years now.. My favorite memory is when our kids (now 21 and 25) were 4 and 8 we were walking the beach. They asked why there weren't any sea shells on the beach.. So, we promptly drove to Marsh's, and unbeknownst to the kids, Dad bought the biggest bag of sea shells they sold. Back to the beach, Dad went one way (wearing his big coat) the kids and I went the other way. Then Dad yelled, "Hey kids, look !!" He had dropped shells here and there for probably a quarter mile stretch. The kids were thrilled with their finds, and never knew our little secret!!! The looks on their faces was priceless.(Shhhhh, don't tell them, we promised we would never let on !! )

Long Beach was the perfect place for us to say "I do" nine years ago. Before our son was born we would return to the peninsula each June to celebrate our anniversary. We sure would love a reason to send our son to Grandma's and visit our favorite place we've been missing!

Thanks "muchly"!

The first time I went to Long Beach was on the occasion of my grandmother's funeral in Camas, Wa. Not a good thing to mention as far as good times or enjoying Long Beach, but one thing stands out in my mind and that was hearing the roar of the surf after dark which scared me to pieces (6 years old at the time). Then, the next day someone gave me a razor clam shell and I found out where the "razor" part came from. Ouch!
Despite all this I fell in love with Long Beach and visited throughout my childhood, marriage, divorce, singleness, love again. I have always tried to stay at the Pacific View Motel. Always clean and friendly and I liked the folks who ran it. I love the fact that you can walk to all the shops, unlike some other beach towns I could name. I would like to see the town stay small and quaint and anytime I hear someone else say they've been there I feel jealous - I want to keep it all to myself. The Chamber of Commerce probably hates that comment. Thank you for letting me enter. I have a fun beach sticker in my car back window but I doubt if anyone is looking for me in Liberty Lake.

Sure, the scenery is lovely, the food delicious (some of the best-tasting crab I ever had was on that trip!), and the philosophical contemplation involved with the looooong walks along the boardwalk and on that 22-mile stretch of sand have their own appeal, but it was the locals that sold me on the area.

Married 12 years on the 12th of Au-gust
Said to my hubby, "To the beach or bust"
Ready to hear the sound of the waves
With girls at Grandma's for all 3 days.
Ready to feel the sand in my toes
To smell the salty sea air with my nose
Just ready to get away and be free
With the love of my life, away at the sea.

I first came to long beach in 2004 with my husband. we werte celebrating our 12 year anniversary. I fell in love with the beautiful surrondings and the friendly people. My husband made this trip very romatic by having flowers and champagne in the room when we checked in. We went to the ice cream store and sat on the bench to enjoy our ice cream when all of a sudden my husband got up and the bench tilted and of course I fell off the end and had ice cream all over me. we have been comming back with the family every year for a camping trip. I love it.

Long Beach is a special place for me because it's the last place my brother and i vacationed together. He was physically handicapped and shortly after we were there he was no longer able to get out of the house. He passed away a few years later. My favorite memory of all times is us sitting on the beach talking while we watched the sunset. Whenever I go back I cry as I smile because I miss him but remember the wonderful time we had there.

I love Long Beach Peninsula! We honeymooned there at Sunset View Resort 19 years ago and have returned to the area every other year since for our wedding anniversary. We stayed again at the resort this past year to celebrate our 18th they were once again gracious and wonderful to us. We have also stayed at Bev's Cottage a love place and a wonderful thoughtful Hostess. We visited with our children when they were little and had a wonderful time always! We can't make a trip without out stopping at Marsh's even though we've been there a 100 plus times we always find something new.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Long Beach is so fun to visit we even hop on our Harley on the spur of the moment and ride over just to have lunch and enjoy the antique shops. Thank you all for making it such a special place to visit.

I manage an Adult Foster Care home in Tigard. I have not had a vacation in about 5 years, when I was able to escape to Lake Powell. I take care of 3 wonderful Elderly Women whom I love dearly, but I'm really wanting some ME time. Especially to put my tootsies in some sand! That is the best pedicure that Mother Nature can supply! Ohhh my tootsies are itchin' to be buried in the sand!

Your beach is one of the most memorable places I have ever been!! It gets in your blood! I loved how dog friendly everyone was. You really know how to make people feel at home. I can't wait to visit again!!! It's been a long time since I was there, but can still hear the crash of the ocean, and feel the spray of the water....
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Coming to the Long Beach Peninsula during a clam dig is just the ticket for a guy from a town by the name of BORING! I wish Oregon would wise up and see how well Washington runs a shellfish program. It's like Sring break once a month, in the winter!

Well, here's the deal. I have been visiting your sight for the past ten years. Origionally, I was living in B.C. with my husband and I was hoping we could come here some day. NOT. We divorced five years ago. My attempts to reconcile a domestic violence marriage were in vain.

Here it is my 46th birthday fast approaching. And again, I am drawn to your web sight. As I dream of visiting this beautiful location for a special occasion. Just to celebrate life, as the single mother of my nine year old son. And then I spot this contest :)

One day I will be there. We will fly our stunt kites on the beach. I will consume mass quantities of oysters. We will visit the historic and natural resources that have been a part of our homeschooling studies. We will wave a flag as the parade goes by. We might even find a special float treasure on the beach. . .

Help me make my Long Beach dream come true, sooner rather than later. Have a great '007.

Hello, my name is Jamie Miller and I grew up in Oysterville and Ocean Park, now I live in Northern California. I have not been back for over 10 years, and would love to take my 11 year old son and my husband to see and experience the place where I grew up. We never can seem to schedule any type of vacation and this would give us the incentive to do it. My great grandfather built a cabin in Ocean park on Bay, which is now a hot dog stand last I heard. My father Steve worked at the Ocean Park Oman s for quite a number of years, he and my mother, Sandi opened the first Video Store in Long Beach, King s Home Video, before moving it to Ocean Park. Needless to say the Peninsula has deep memories for me and I would give anything to come back for a visit.

It would be great to come to Long Beach, Washington and spend some quality time with our grown children and our grandchildren who live in the Vancouver area. We need to find a family-friendly environment where the kids will enjoy outdoor activities with us--biking, hiking and kite flying. We want to all be on vacation at the same time, and of course, we're thinking Long Beach, Washington has to be as good or better than Long Beach, California (where we spent our last vacation together).

I've been down to the ocean where surf pounds into sand I've ambled down her beaches
beholding splendours grand
I dared to have a dream or two and let my soul fly free gentle breezes carried it
beyond the azure sea
Distant places beckoned meacross the oceans wide they gathered gently on the waves and would not be denied
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Lofty thoughts and longing
restless winds stirred in my heart
A journey loomed ahead of me If only I could start....

The ocean has always been my "thinking place". It is the sanctuary I seek when large things loom in life. When important decisions must be made, or grand ideas pondered, I've always been drawn to the beach. The vastness of the sea always serves to put ones problems into perspective and give a person the sense that there is a larger, and meaningful power out there somewhere. With each new tide, hope is renewed.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I'm so pleased to have found your particular slice of paradise. I look forward to returning to your beaches, to think, ponder and hope- It is the stuff dreams are made of.

See you in the sand!

My husband and I discovered long beach by accident many years ago and have enjoyed several trips. There is no better place to celebrate the 4th of July and horseback riding on the beach is one of our favorite memories. Unfortunately, we haven't been since we had our daughter almost 5 years ago. We were always waiting till she got older and could enjoy the activities more. Last year would have been our first year back, but then my husband got sick and had to have several major surgeries. Having been off work for almost a year has been been difficult financially, as well as emotionally. We are just starting to get our normal life back and would love to come back this summer and introduce our daughter to all the fun and activities of your wonderful town. And for mom and dad, it would help to bring back some happy memories after the hard year we have had!

I love sand in my soda, sand in my hair, sand between my toes, sand in my sandwich, sand in my ears and sand in my cabana. It has all been all washed away. I need to win so I can replenish the supply in my soda, hair, toes, sandwich, ears and cabana!

The Long Beach Penninsula opens up the kid in me to explore and discover new places of interest every time I visit. Such history and beauty and wonderment. And right now my mouth is watering for some of the freshest and sweetest crab I've ever tasted. There's no place I'd rather be. I love the tiny oysters and the cream cheese with smoked oysters found in Oysterville. What a beautiful bit of history found walking past the well cared for homes. I've yet to dig a clam but anxious to learn from the pros. I'm looking forward to the markets opening for the summer and for the walks along the beach with my puppy.

Along with my brothers and sister , my uncle Howard [a single guy] loaded us up and drove from Weippi Idaho to Long Beach for our summer break , I will never forget the huge fry pan and all the model ships , we bought a ship for our father, uncle Howard was mad at us for spending our money on suviners , but we felt real proud of our purchase , so everytime I come to Long beach , I look for the huge fry pan and remember back then. Makes me warm feeling and happy.

As a full time barista and college student finances have to be strict and there is little time for leisure. My fiancee and I intend to get married in another year (after we graduate) and we've always dreamed of moving to the Northwest. Every summer we absolutely count and reserve every penny for the opportunity to explore this great nation. It would be greatly appreciated if we were awarded this special prize that would help us get a sense of our ((hopefully)) future home state.

I have spent alot of time on the Long Beach Peninsula. Their is so much to do! I love all the hiking trails and the animals and birds you see at the beach. Recently we were at Beards Hallow when they were filming a movie and saw the camera crew filming the seagulls and pelicans that were near the waters edge. A man from the film crew ran towards them and they lifted in flight as they were filming. I cant wait until the movie comes out so I can say I saw that!!! I have read books on the history of Oysterville and it is so interresting to drive through that little town and read the signs in front of the houses and feel like you know all about the people who first came there. To find a little piece of history in one of many antique stores is always a fun time. Eating a warm cinnimon roll from the little bakery at the Ocean Park beach approach while sitting in your car by the ocean on a early saturday morning. Many great times I remember!

There is a place I love to visit and visit often, where the wind blows and the smell of the fresh salty air fills your lungs, where the people are polite and courteous, where the service is excellent, accommodations are cozy and clean, where the view of the ocean from your room can also be seen.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Walks on the beach, gift shops galore, I love this area from Ilwaco to Oysterville I adore. Many attractions to visit, antique shops and museums to explore, I just keep coming back for more.
From winter to summer it is a great place to stay. If you love the rain and even the unpredictable weather, stay in your room, curl up and keep warm, just to listen to the sounds of the ocean beating upon the shores. Rent a room with a hot tub, or go swimming indoors.
In the summer you can always stay cool, feel the warm breeze of the wind blowing upon your face, fly a kite or look for sand dollars. Take off your shoes, roll up your pants and play chase with the waves, feel the soft sand beneath your feet and toes, or lay down on a blanket with your book till you drift off and doze.
If you like bird watching or just sitting out on the dunes, there are many things to do. Hiking, fishing, camping, golf, or clam digging there is so much to do, take a trip over to the visitor s bureau to learn about the festivals and make plans for the next time you head to the beach, remember that having fun isn t too far out of your reach.

Sadly, I have not recently visited the area which once meant so much to me. My father was born and raised there. My grandmother was the city clerk for many years. Both of my grandparents are now laid to rest there. There are too many memories to mention. 4th of July fireworks with my family. Marsh's Free Museum. The merry-go-round and shooting gallery that my grandparents loved to take us. The beauty of the kite festival. The Longbeach area reflects family fun and it is something I would love to share with my own children.

I would like to win because it's probley the only way my boss would give me time off. :-)

Last august, my family and I took a vacation to Long beach. I was the most memorabl trip that we have ever taken. We spent most of our days, watching the kites and enjoying the waves. My wife and I fell in love with Long beach and will keep coming back with our family every year untill we can get jobs and live there. My son obviously loves it to, no joke, he was asking me to take him back to the beach just last week. His exact words were "Want to go to the beach dad? Would that be fun? Just for a little bit?" He is three and a half. He has a breathing condition and the salty air is good for his lungs, which is the other reason we would like to live there! I hope we can win this Vacation, but if not, well you will see us anyway :)

Over the years of travel I have never been to a more beautiful and relaxing place as the state of Washington, and now having met a very special person, I would like nothing more than to come back to your wonderful state, and Long Beach, which happens to be where this person lives, I know that it would be a great surpise to show up at this person's front door and be able to share in all the beautiful scenery, activities, and great fun that Long Beach has to offer...what a wish come true :)

Hi!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I just visited your area again after several years and fell in love all over again! My aunt and uncle have a home up in Ocean Park and I just returned from my very first clammin' trip. I had a blast! My mom passed away a few weeks ago and so I brought my dad down to see his sister and to enjoy some time hearing stories of my mom from years before. Long before I was around my parents, aunt & uncle, and my sisters used to invade Longbeach to play on the beach, go clammin' and make some terrific family memories. My mom in particular was a whiz clammer. She was well known in our family for her unique technique...you see she didnt use the gun or even a shovel...no, she just dropped to her knees and used her well manicured hands and dug down for the ultimate prize...those fabulous Longbeach clams!:)
Well my dad and aunt and uncle are older now (70's) and invited me along this trip to try my hand at this fantastic event. I am so very tickled to find out that I too own this skill that my mom had. I have the magic hands....I dropped to my knees and dug with all my might to find my piece of heaven (or 15 pieces as it were)! Just wanted to let you all know that your neck of the woods has held a special place in our family's hearts and memories for years and now...I have got to experience the clamming event first hand.....I cant shut up about it. Thanks for havin such fabulous locals and shops.....and a great, pride-filled beach to make some more memories on! I wont soon forget. Now I've got to go....I've got a bunch of chowder and fritters to make up with my loot!:)

When I think of Long Beach, my mind will drift away
Imagining everything that makes it my favorite place to stay
Of course the smell of fresh air and the bakery
And how I love Marsh's Museum (because some things are FREE)
I can't forget mini golf and how I ALWAYS win
But please don t tell my Dad I said that he ll disown me as next of kin
What about the way it feels just to know you're out of town
It really has that way of turning any frown upside down
I love to swim in hotel pools and walk along the beach
The politeness of the Long Beach folk I don t think you can teach
And when you re ready to lay your head and get some needed rest
You think there s so much more to do, Long Beach is the BEST!
It s like a home away from home and I ll continue the tradition
And you can bet your butt I wrote this poem to get a free vacation!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Every year since the day I was born
I will always go back, I have solemnly sworn
Long Beach is special and I can't deny
How much fun that we have there, my family and I
We go there of course for the views and fresh air
And to paint the town red without worry or care
Nothing more precious than family time
So I'm writing this poem and making it rhyme
Hoping that to the judges it will reach
So my family can win a free trip to the beach!

DREAM VACATION
I really just need a break now. I simply must get away.
But it s hard to reconcile my wishes
with my take-home pay.
I dream about the ocean beaches
every hour of every day.
It s slowly driving me batty
that it s all about work and no play.
But I don t have the time to vacation
since I never get off of the phone
and I m doing the work of two people,
so I ll just kill two birds with one stone.
I ll fill up my office with beach sand.
I ll spread it out over the floor.
I ll create a virtual paradise
and I won t wear my shoes any more!
I ll cover my nose with zinc oxide
and I ll get me some tropical shirts,
with pictures of palm trees and surfboards,
in colors that actually hurt.
I ll accessorize my ensembles
with a camera and contrasting lei,
and I ll put little paper umbrellas
in my Styrofoam cups every day.
My desk will be littered with seashells
and starfish and small plastic ships.
I ll also have a speedboat
that I ll make sounds for with my lips.
I ll probably get called on the carpet.
and my boss will inquire how I am.
I think that I will smile sweetly
and I ll say that I m just keeping clam.
This should drive all the Management crazy!
It s a rather ingenious plot!
I ll bet that they ll grant me compassionate leave!
And why be here, when I d rather not?
Oh, I m sure that there ll be much discussion
and they ll bicker and yammer and scream!
But I m sure that I ll get to the ocean
because after all, this is MY dream.

I have never been to Long Beach. Whenever a trip to the beach is planned, my family always heads to the Oregon coast. That is about to change! For our 2nd annual "Girls Trip to the Beach", my sisters, sister-in-law and mother are heading to Long Beach! We are so excited. We have heard from so many that it is a wonderful place.
My sisters, mom and sister-in-law all live near each other but, don't get a chance to be together very often. Every one is busy with their own families, jobs, etc.; this is our chance to be together without any distractions (i.e. children). We talk about it all the time and have very fond memories of our last trip. This is the first time that our mother will be attending and we are very excited. I have been doing research on where to go and what to do while we are there. I am amazed that we didn't find you earlier! So much in such a small place. Thanks so much for the chance to let you know how excited I am about coming to visit.

My mom says that I have been there before when I was very young. We went to so many beaches when I was little it is hard to remember all. I just want to go somewhere where I can relax with the kids but also have somewhere to take the kids and have fun. I have always wanted to visit longbeach an it was suggested by a friend.

i really enjoy going down there i go down for just about every clam dig and i support all the local businesses

As I remember, I always smile
It was the laid back feeling that was just my style
I can smell the food and the fudge oh my!
It brings back warm memories as i take a deep sigh
That one store is a must for me I can't pass it by
I go in it each time though I can't explain why
But the best is for last as the warm thought flows
The sand at my feet shifting between my toes
I sat there I remember, watching the sun go down
A great big smile on my face as I remember that town.

I took a vacation in Long Beach a few years back during the kite festival and absolutely loved it. I've since married, and my husband has never had the pleasure of a visit. He was in school when we got married so we didn't get to go on much of a honeymoon. Our 2nd aniversary is coming up this June and I'd love to surprise him with a great trip!

I grew up in MT and was never on a plane until I was 35. We moved here to the Pacific NW and I am IN LOVE!! There is nothing more beautiful than the Pacific Ocean in my opinion. I would love nothing more than to win this trip and be able to spend time in the Ilwaco area exploring with my husband.. Even though Montana has it's own beauty, there is nothing to compare to the fantastic offerings near Ilwaco/Long Beach. :-)

I'd love to come to Long Beach! My parents are there serving a mission for the LDS Church, and they write and tell me how beautiful it is!

2004. What does this number mean to me? It signifies the year of my very first visit to Long Beach. The year I found a annual vacation spot.. I have visited long beach EVERY year since, and it only gets better each year. This year I have plans of bringing my wonderful boyfriend for his first time. I know that he will return with me each year for the rest of our lives. Lock Beach rocks!

You have a "real" town that is wonderful to vacation in. Love the kite festival. You have wonderful restaurants, too. We are rediscovering our inner child and our commitment to each other. Thanks for helping!!

I love the long spanse of water soaked sand at Long Beach. I've taken my shildren there for twenty five years to their absolute delight. Now, I am able to take my grandchildren there for their first time seeing the magnificent beach I want to be able to continue to enjoy this beautiful and peaceful area with all of my family for as long as I am able. It has become a part of my life, my memories, and the heritage I can deliver to my family. Thank you so very much

I have a long love affair with Long Beach. I remember as a child my father would wake us up early in the morning and suprise us with a trip to the Ocean. We would pile all five kids and 1 dog into our old station wagon and head off to what was then called Longview Lodge. I'm sure we were quite a site pulling in. From those days 40+ years ago to the years I took my children to today when I take my grandchildren Long Beach has been a favorite place, a way to re-live those memories of my youth. The sand dunes, jumping the waves, the frying pan (how many pictures do I have of me & my siblings, my kids, my grandkids in front of that frying pan?), horseback riding and so much more. WE LOVE THE LONG BEACH AREA!!
