LONG BEACH PENINSULA, Wash. – July 21, 2009 – Nine days of delicious, relaxing and colorful outdoor entertainment will welcome visitors to the Long Beach Peninsula, August 15 to 23, 2009, with Blues & Seafood in Ilwaco on August 15 and Jazz and Oysters in Oysterville on August 16, followed by Long Beach’s weeklong (August 17 to 23) Washington State International Kite Festival.

Taking center stage at the Port of Ilwaco from 2 to 10PM on Saturday, August 15, Blues & Seafood promises to be “bigger and badder” this year with new headliners and an expanded Food Court. On the Main Stage, returning crowd-pleasers Buoy 10 and Boogie Bone Band will perform at 4:30PM and 6:15PM respectively, and Portland’s The Strange Tones – winners of the Cascade Blues Association’s 2008 Muddy Awards – at 8PM. Ten peninsula seafood providers will prepare tasty bites complemented by frosty micro brews, palate-pleasing regional wines and steamy barbecued oysters fresh from Willapa Bay at the Food Court, open 4 to 8PM. Admission to the Main Stage is $18; food and beverages will be sold separately.

A summer tradition, Jazz and Oysters will fill the historic Oysterville Schoolhouse grounds on Sunday, August 16, with the sounds of the Kate Davis Ensemble (10:30AM to 1:30PM) and the May Palmer Ensemble (2:30 to 5:30PM) as well as the aroma of oysters hot off the grill. Providing vocals and playing upright bass, Davis, who was selected as a 2009 Presidential Scholar of the Arts, will be accompanied by Tom Grant on piano and Ron Steen on drums. Palmer – dubbed “The Queen of Ivory Jazz” – will wow audiences with the range, style, versatility and power of her singing voice. Beyond oysters both hot and cold, event goers can also choose from fruit and cheese plates, desserts, libations and more. All-day lawn-seating admission, exclusive of food, is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12.

A discounted two-day pass for those wishing to attend both Blues & Seafood and Jazz & Oyster is available for $34 per person.

Called ‘the greatest, grandest Kite Festival on the North American continent’ by Kitelife Magazine, the Washington State International Kite Festival will once again fill the skies, the wide, sandy beach along the Long Beach Bolstad beach approach and the 1/2 mile long boardwalk with brilliant, bold colors, shapes and design. Fighter kites, kite ballet, fireworks, exhibitions, four mass ascensions and the magical lighted night fly are among the festival’s many highlights. Attendees can take part in hands-on activities such as kite building, flying competitions, and more. The event is free to the public; entry fees are required for competitions. Visit www.kitefestival.com for details.

The Long Beach Peninsula boasts a string of coastal communities with award-winning restaurants, accommodating lodging, colorful shops, and fine art galleries. Attractions include national and state parks, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, two historic lighthouses, an eight-mile bike and pedestrian friendly coastal trail, the Willapa Bay National Wildlife Refuge, one-of-a-kind museums, and a 20+ mile stretch of public beach.
