Birthday Party To Be Thrown for Jake, The Alligator Man’s 75th On The Long Beach Peninsula On August 11, 2007 |

July 25, 2007 The City of Long Beach is hosting a community-wide party for Jake, The Alligator Man, from 1 to 3PM on Saturday, August 11. The beloved attraction at Marsh’s Free Museum will be celebrating his 75th birthday. The festivities will take place at the park in front of the museum in downtown Long Beach. The public is invited to join in. A proclamation by Mayor Ralph Moore will kick off the birthday party, followed by the bestowing of a key to the city to Jake, a 40-year resident of Long Beach. A mouthwatering two by three foot sheet cake, baked by the landmark Cottage Bakery, will provide birthday sweets for up to 200 people. Winning limericks and short essays on how Jake’s parents met will also be shared during the party. Jake, The Alligator Man, has resided at Marsh’s Free Museum since 1967. During that time he has attracted a loyal following of fans and curiosity seekers from throughout the Northwest. Bumper stickers depicting Jake can be seen on automobiles throughout Washington and Oregon. Jake received national fame in 1993 when he was featured on the front page of the Weekly World News. Marsh’s Free Museum is located on Pacific Highway at 5th Street South and is one of the key fixtures in addition to go-carts, a carousel, a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, arcades, a boardwalk and an expansive wide sandy beach -- that make Long Beach a quintessential beach town.
