Long Beach Peninsula Doggie Olympics Promises A Paw-Full of Fun and Games On June 23, 2007 |

February 1, 2007 Canine owners and dog-lovers at large are invited to join in the fun on Saturday, June 23, with the first ever Long Beach Peninsula Doggie Olympic Games. Providing the perfect recipe for a good time playful puppies, a sunny beach and a good cause the Games will be held on the beach at the Bolstad beach approach in Long Beach and will benefit the South Pacific County Humane Society’s “No Kill” shelter. A wide variety of competitions promise to both amuse and challenge the four-legged participants of any size, shape or breed and their handlers. These range from The Babe Ruth Obedience Baseball and Rip Van Winkle Sleep Off to the Who’s Your Daddy? mixed breed competition, and the Lewis & Clark Seaman Award -- honoring the dog who made the longest trek to the competition. Other competitions will include Dunking for Dogs, I’ve Got Rhythm Musical Sit, The Peanut Butter Lick, The Mariah Carey/Luciano Pavarotti Sing Off, Fill A Fuller Brush, and more. In the spirit of Doggie Olympics, gold, silver and bronze medals in the shape of dog bones will be awarded to the winners of each competition. In addition to the canine competitions, there will be vendors of doggie goods, information booths, a raffle, a silent auction, and a dog and companion photo opportunity. As always, downtown Long Beach offers great places to shop and grab a bit to eat, and other communities on the Peninsula Seaview, Ilwaco, Ocean Park, Nahcotta and Oysterville invite discovery. The competitions will run from noon up until the closing ceremony at 5PM. There is no charge to attend the event; however there will be handler and event fees for entrants to fund the local “No Kill” shelter.
