ILWACO, Wash. – September 4, 2007 – The Baker Bay Kayak /Canoe Race returns to the Port of Ilwaco for its fourth year of paddle-happy competition and outdoor adventure, on September 22. The 10K flatwater course navigates pristine Baker Bay, renowned for abundant wildlife and jaw-dropping scenery.

The excitement kicks off at 10AM with multiple categories of races and culminates with a mouthwatering tuna barbeque, awards ceremony and prizes. Land-loving spectators are welcome to watch the racers and share in the exhilaration and merriment.

The race entry fee is $40. All competent paddlers can participate. However, all contestants are required to sign a liability waiver, and children under 18 years will need the signature of a parent.

The race fee includes tickets for the tuna barbeque, a commemorative event t-shirt, prizes, awards, and gifts galore. More information and registration are available online at http://www.bakerbayrace.com or http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1423538. The event contact is Bruce Peterson, who can be reached at 360-642-2291.

The race takes place at Ilwaco, a thriving fishing village located at the mouth of the Columbia River and gateway to one of the nation’s newest national treasures – the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Park. Two working lighthouses, pristine beaches, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, a Confluence installation designed by Maya Lin, miles of coastal hiking trails, working canneries and public fish markets, restaurants, fine art galleries, upscale gift shops, a bookstore, antique malls, comfortable and unique accommodations, and more make this a destination year round.. The Port of Ilwaco’s 800-slip marina is home to the Northwest’s premier charter fishing for sturgeon, salmon, halibut and tuna, including the famous Buoy 10 fishing grounds. Dungeness crab and razor clams are also harvested here. For additional destination information on Ilwaco and the Long Beach Peninsula, please access www.funbeach.com.
