September 4, 2007 The Baker Bay Kayak /Canoe Race returns to the Port of Ilwaco for its fourth year of paddle-happy competition and outdoor adventure, on September 22. The 10K flatwater course navigates pristine Baker Bay, renowned for abundant wildlife and jaw-dropping scenery. The race takes place at Ilwaco, a thriving fishing village located at the mouth of the Columbia River and gateway to one of the nation’s newest national treasures the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Park. Two working lighthouses, pristine beaches, the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, a Confluence installation designed by Maya Lin, miles of coastal hiking trails, working canneries and public fish markets, restaurants, fine art galleries, upscale gift shops, a bookstore, antique malls, comfortable and unique accommodations, and more make this a destination year round.. The Port of Ilwaco’s 800-slip marina is home to the Northwest’s premier charter fishing for sturgeon, salmon, halibut and tuna, including the famous Buoy 10 fishing grounds.
