I am the captain of the Sand Angels. We participated in the competition in the2007 Sandsations "family category". My team members ranged from age 8 to age 12. We did the sculpture "Heading to Sea" the sea turtle...
This was their first time to Long Beach and first time competing.. I promised my daughter a camping trip to celebrate transitioning from elementary to Middle school. ... I was surfing your website and came across the SandSations contest. I told my daughter to call her friends from school to see if the could go.
We did not know much about this nor had we ever made much from sand. So, for 3 weeks, we traveled 25 miles to a local beach to practice, but we found out that the sand around Puget Sound was too coarse.
So I decided that I would go buy some sand at a local hardware store and a kiddy pool. We started practicing every night after I came home from work.
Here is one of the pictures that led us to your town for three days and two nights...Oh, wet, wonderful fun which we had. I told the girls no matter if they did not win over the public eye, they would always be winners in mine.

Mind you they are already talking about next years contest. They noted that they will not do sea creatures because everyone who made sea animals did not win. I thought that was very cute when I overheard them discussing their plans. Regardless they WILL BE Back.
Thank you to all the business that made us feel welcomed and for treating each one of our children as a valued customer not just as a kid.
Sincerely,
Tani Adams

Please note that SandSations weekend is chosen, by the team of volunteers who put on this award-winning event, based on the best tides for building.
Unfortunately, tide tables can't account for storm surges or other acts of nature. Therefore, all times are approximate and subject to change. Check in at the SandSations Trailer on the beach, on day of the event, for details.
CATEGORIES:

Each year, we are asked, 'How do we know which category to enter?" We respond, "If you've never built a sand sculpture before, try Novice. If you have entered a contest before and believe you did as well as a team, try intermediate. If you have won before and intermediate and truly feel up to it, try Masters, but remember, they are Masters! It is all a personal choice. The idea is to have fun!"
