Windless Kite Festival

Watch this page for information about the 2009 event as it becomes available. Until then, here's a description of the 2008 event:

2008 was the seventh annual Windless Kite Festival in Long Beach, Washington. Organizer Scott Davis proudly says it's the longest running indoor event in the U.S. This event is known for its innovation. Besides the delightful choreographed solo performances to music, Windless created a Hot Trick Shoot Out bonanza. They encourage costumes; also, duet and trio coordinated performances began in this school gymnasium. Single-line fighters and gliding kites plus kites in tandem are part of the show.

Not only is he a performer, but he enjoys helping new flyers learn the beauty of two-line kite flying.

Other regional indoor flyers included AKA Competition participants Tristan Underwood, Wayne Turner, Bud Hayes, Jennifer Brown, Lam Hoc, Amy Doran, and Alan Cunningham.

Other flyers who you may have seen before and hope to come again are: Don Ostey, Jerry Cannon, Bill Rogers, Ron Suyematsu, Dan Leigh, Egan Davis, Jim McPherson, Brian Davis, Jeff Reed, Toby Arndt, Penny Lingenfelter, Shannon Underwood, David Bradley, and Doug Lommel.

This January 19-21 indoor kite event was exciting for the audience. It was also an opportunity to learn some tricks from Northwest and Canadian kite flyers. Both watchers and learners had a great time!
