NORTHWEST STUNT KITE CHAMPIONSHIPS is a sport kite competition that includes all expertise levels from junior to masters. Dual and quad line events are held for individuals, pairs and teams. Spectators will enjoy the "show in the sky" to be viewed from the Boardwalk or directly by the competition fields on the beach. Demonstration fields will offer spectators a chance to "try out" various kites, take lessons in kite flying and enjoy watching the kites in flight. Kite flyers from around the Northwest will put up single-line displays in the north fields. The Fighter Kite Club will hold a competition and display. Come and bring your kites to enjoy some leisurely flying or compete for points in this American Kitefliers Association sanctioned event.

The sport kite competitors may compete in a variety of events. Ballet competitors provide a routine using choreography and music of their choice. Team Ballet routines look similar to the Blue Angels Flight Squadron precision flying, using kites instead of airplanes! Precision competitors are given three or four compulsory maneuvers to develop into a performance. The precision portion of the competition has been compared to the "short program" in ice-skating, while the ballet portion of the competition has been compared with the "long-program" in ice-skating. Team Train will provide a beautiful display in the sly with multiple kites flown by each member of the team or pair.

All competitions are judged with awards given at the end of the event. The competitors at NWSKC travel along the West Coast and other parts of the USA competing in other competitions to gain points for qualification at the American Kitefliers Grand Nationals to be held in the fall. NWSKC is a part of the national AKA Conferences and the Northwest Sport Kite League.

NORTHWEST STUNT KITE CHAMPIONSHIPS offers open registration for anyone interested in competing. Registration will open Saturday at 8:00 AM at the registration tent by the competition field on the beach. Entry is $5 per event.

Individual precision and ballet events begin at 10:00 both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Pair and Team events will be held both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The World Kite Museum will also be open all weekend to offer exhibit viewing.
