One Sky One World gatherings will be held annually around the world to promote protection of the planet, peace, friendship and understanding between all people. The yearly festivals are sponsored by community based organizations committed to promoting international friendship in a positive demonstration for global cooperation. In Long Beach, WA the kitefly will be held from 11am to 4pm at the Bolstad Avenue beach approach. Activities are planned utilizing the multi-cultural symbol of the kite and the ocean of air that we all share. Participants understand the kite’s contribution to cultural history, the arts and sciences through recognition and enjoyment of the kite, its many manifestations, and the activity of kite flying as expressed in many nations and regions throughout recorded history. The art and entertainment activities associated with the One Sky One World event lead to community enjoyment, understanding and friendship between people, environmental awareness and promoting world peace. Since the first festival in 1986, hundreds of thousands of people have attended One Sky One World events in more than 30 nations. To promote world peace using kites and the wind to symbolize the metaphor contained in the event title, "One Sky, One World". Tens of thousands of spectators have looked to the sky with joy at the spectacle of colorful kites and wind sculpture. In addition to the kite-fly in Long Beach, WA, most states of the United States and people on continents worldwide are expected to participate this year. Special guests will fly kites from different countries giving visitors a chance to play the Kite Passport Game. Also, there will be an opportunity to make kites from another country. Activities will happen from 11am to 4pm each day. People are invited to bring kites they've made or purchased or to watch the activities and be included in the annual worldwide tally on Sunday. Because the World Kite Museum features Lawrence Hargrave, the man who invented the box and cellular kites this year, the Museum encourages folks to fly their box and cellular kites in 2007. Bill Goble, Portland kite builder and master of cellular kites, will be honored. Doc Counce and Harley Ryan will spearhead this daylong accession to honor Mr. Goble, a frequent flyer in this event. Beginners, those with purchased kites and the experienced are encouraged to join us. For more information about this event, contact the World Kite Museum & Hall of Fame at 360-642-4020.
