Celebrate the Harvest!A celebration of all things cranberry will take place on the Long Beach Peninsula, on October 12 through 14, 2007. Bog tours, food sampling, live entertainment and more will showcase the area’s cranberry growing heritage during the 86th Annual Cranberrian Fair. Cranberrian Fair buttons are $5 each and cover admission to the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum (aka Ilwaco Heritage Museum), Cranberry Museum, Cranberry Trolley and ‘Cranberry Bite at the Port.’ As part of Cranberrian Fair activities, the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum (aka Ilwaco Heritage Museum) will host a variety of vendors, offering handmade items such as pottery, jewelry, books, paintings, cranberry vine baskets, peach/cranberry pies, yard art, and more. There will also be a cranberry growing display, a number of raffles and locally-produced cranberry products from Oysterville Sea Farms. Free samples of cranberry juice and dried cranberries will given out by Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., and fresh cranberries will be available for purchase.
The Cranberry Trolley will run on the hour from the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum (aka Ilwaco Heritage Museum) starting at 11AM with the final run at 3PM on Sunday. October is cranberry harvest month on the Long Beach Peninsula, where ‘red gold’ has been grown since 1877. Over 600 acres of bogs, many on multi-generation family-owned farms, spread up and down the Peninsula. During harvest season, organic cranberries can be picked by hand at Cranguyma Farms on Sandridge Road, not far from the Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., commercial processing plant. Cranberries can be sampled in fudge at Anna Lena’s gift shop, purchased dried at many establishments, and enjoyed as a condiment or ingredient in ‘Dining at the Source’ cuisine at many of the Peninsula’s fine restaurants.
